About Maikel VistelBorn in Santiago de Cuba, with a legacy of his own blood musical background, Maikel Vistel is involved in the roots of their land to combine a contemporary, warm and personal sound. A graduate of the prestigious National School of Art in Havana with the title "Instrumentalist - Professor of Saxophone and Practice Set ", was summoned for three years as a teacher in the same institution. Maikel has had great jazz masters as Mark Turner, George Garzon, Joe Lovano, Greg Osby, Roman Filiú, David Virelles, Aruan Ortiz, Gary Thomas, Steve Coleman, among others. In order to continue their artistic and professional growth, Maikel travels to Madrid with his brother and fellow trumpeter Jorge Vistel. It is in Europe where they create their first joint project called, Vistel Brothers. With great success and recognition the group has performed in the most important jazz clubs and festivals in Spain: Vitoria, Castelldefels . Menorca, Salamanca, Zamora, Segovia and Jazz in Bilbao 365 As for his teaching, Maikel has taught Master Classes in Buenos Aires, Santiago de Cuba (Esteban Salas Conservatory), Pontevedra (Jazz Seminar) and the National School of Art in Havana. He has worked in the School of Music of Salamanca and Thelonius Monk in Esmuva, Madrid. In the field of commercial music has been part of the successful Puerto Rican group Calle 13, winner of 25 Grammy; as saxophonist, arranger and section metals. For four years he has toured throughout Latin America, Europe and the United States. Currently, he collaborates with Cuban singer Diana Fuentes; and part of the team as a saxophonist and arranger, music producer Eduardo Cabra. His first album Vistel Brothers, EVOLUTION, was published in May 2010 with the label Fresh Sound New Talents. In 2011 promotes a new musical work with Reiner Elizalde "The Negron" and Juanma Barroso called TRIO ON; under the label Big Music. Album that brought him recognition and nomination in the category of Jazz, at the awards Cubadisco in 2014. In 2015, after many years of searching and research in traditional styles and musical contemporaries, Maikel recorded his first solo album called steps. This comes after the need to translate the style that defines and identifies as an artist, in each of his compositions. STEPS has been chosen by renowned saxophonist Greg Osby, to form part of his record label in NY, Inner Circle Music |
